My More Businessy Bio
I've been a member of the University of Toronto’s Centre for Health Promotion and was an official “stress buster” for the Global Business and Economic Roundtable on Addiction and Mental Health. Passionate about the brain, neuroplasticity, and the power of the mind, in 2005 I became a certified hypnotherapist through the U.S. National Guild of Hypnotists, Inc. With an interest in palliative and end-of-life care, I was a volunteer at Hospice Thornhill and in 2006 was the proud recipient of the June Callwood Circle of Outstanding Hospice Volunteers. I continue to enjoy mentoring students in the York University’s Learning Disabilities Program.
In 1997, after 20 successful years, I left the corporate world and founded Experience Expanded Inc. Although greatly rewarded and recognized in the technology field, I now utilise my talents and energy helping individuals improve the quality of their work and personal life facilitating my highly-rated experiential workshops.
I started my IT career at National Trust as a Business Systems Analyst. Along with designing the loans system, I wrote the user documentation, developed the system training program, and delivered all of the management and user training across Canada. It was this experience that eventually led me to pursue a career in adult education.
During my subsequent thirteen-year tenure with Royal Bank I held the positions of Quality Assurance Manager, Project Manager, Assistant Manager Technology Training, and Business Systems Analyst.
In 1992, I earned a diploma in Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier University, which I have applied in designing and facilitating a wide variety of workshops. My passion, enthusiasm, and skill in leading these workshops have been evidenced in consistently high participant evaluations. Anyone observing my life would say, “She’s got it all: a terrific husband who adores her; a happy, well-adjusted daughter; a lovely home; a successful business; harmonious relationships; excellent health…” And they would be right. But outward appearances can be deceptive because despite looking like I had it all going on, there was a time when my life was a steady diet of self-judgment, harsh criticism, deprivation, restrictions, self-loathing, and unrealistic expectations.
Geesh, that sounds so awful. To be fair, I was relatively content, but far too often I felt like a victim and I was obsessed with food and my body image. All the while, thankfully, I had a deep inner nudging, letting me know that I could be a
whole lot happier than I was. You see, for 30-plus years I'd read a plethora of self-help books that made this promise. But despite resonating with the authors’teachings, my life didn’t change dramatically until I encountered a few painful bumps on my path, which compelled me to actually apply the wisdom in their books. I could no longer ignore the fact that these bumps were a result of destructive patterns that I continued to perpetuate. Unwilling to suffer any longer, I shut down my business and took a 9-month “spiritual sabbatical” to figure out who I was and how I wanted to be in this world. After taking a long, hard look at my life—the life that I created—I slowly claimed my personal power and started to live with intention. During that time I made the most wonderful discovery: when I allowed myself to Love and accept me exactly as I was, I was virtually unhurtable--all was truly well with me--inside and out. IT WAS THE BEST FEELING EVER! What I experienced, albeit short moments at time, was unconditional Love and it was ULTIMATE FREEDOM!
Naturally (and I believe that Loving ourselves is our natural way of being) I wanted to experience more unconditional Love and personal freedom. Thus, the idea of creating a community of Self-Love Dieters was born, a safe "place" where we can learn and share how to nourish our mind, body, and soul with Loving thoughts, words, and behaviours. Further, to help keep me on a Loving track, and to help others in the process, I designed a series of workshops that evoke transformational insights and offer strategies and processes designed to empower us to create a life we’re excited about. And, hey, when embarked upon with support and encouragement from other like-minded Love-dieters, it just makes everything easier—and a whole lot more fun!
